insert image throughout the blog

I am writing my first blog posts & am having trouble with inserting pictures throughout the blog to break up the text making the read more enjoyable. I have pictures saved to my desktop & would like to strategically insert (paste) them with the text in 2017 WP theme. Can this be done OR should I choose a different theme…?

You may insert images into various places on a site, including the content of pages and posts, with any WordPress.com theme. See the Images support page.
