Hi –
Are you looking to add media or images? Please share more details.
Help for sites that run the open source WordPress software will come from the community forums at https://wordpress.org/support/

Thanks for your reply. I’m looking to add symbols (not images) into my text …. dollar signs, pound signs, degrees, etc. Nowhere can I find where the “symbols” are now located. Aren’t “media” and “images” the same?

Not only don’t I see a ‘character map’, I don’t see the ‘classic block’ … ? I’ve been using WordPress for years. Why did it get so complicated????

Why when you first start writing a post in the Block editor are you presented with an almost-blank screen?? I’m sorry to be so negative. I’ve really tried hard to use the Block editor but feel that it’s crazy that to get to all the buttons a normal person would use when writing you now have to reach them via a “+” button, then “Formatting” and then “classic”. You might as well just skip the Block editor completely and use the good old real Classic editor all the time.

To reach “insert symbols” etc when working in the Block editor:
you now have to reach them via a “+” button, then “Formatting” and then “classic”.
and:
How do I get back to the “classic” editor?
When you’re working on a post in the Block editor click on the three dots top right and then scroll down to the bottom right.
-
Here’s the menu. Still don’t see a “classic” option.
View
Top Toolbar
Access all block and document tools in a single place
Spotlight Mode
Focus on one block at a time
Fullscreen Mode
Work without distraction

Actually, I must point out that my instructions apply to sites hosted here at WordPress.com such as https://teatoastandtravel.wordpress.com/ That site hasn’t been updated for a while. If you’re actually working on the DreamHost site teatoastandtravel.com then you’ve been posting in the wrong support forum and the classic editor is only available to you if you re-install it as a plugin.

Your site will be using the WordPress.org software. staff-zinnia did say earlier:

Thanks for all your help. I’ll just continue to write in Word and then cut and paste. So frustrating!
-
I have just installed the “classic editor” as a Plug-In and am back to being a happy blogger! Thank you all so much!!
