Insert Tweet not working

  • Unknown's avatar

The “Insert tweet” feature has always worked well: just copy the URL of the tweet and done.

But today it’s not working any more: when I copy the URL, the text of the URL doesn’t show in the visual editor – only a frame framing the paragraph; I can click on the frame and the “Insert Tweet” option opens, but I can neither “Insert Tweet” (the button is disabled) nor “Insert from URL” (the URL does not appear in the visual editor).

In the HTML editor, the URL does show.

And in older posts with embedded tweets, they have disappeared: they show in the HTML editor, but not in the visual editor (again, only a frame framing the paragraph), neither in the blog post.

    How can I solve this?

  • Hi there,

I’m not entirely sure what you’re speaking of – I don’t know of any option anywhere on WordPress.com that uses the text “Insert Tweet”.

I see you’re still using the classic editor on all your sites with us. In that editor you simply paste a tweet link on its own line in the editor, and that’s it. There shouldn’t be any frames, and nothing you need to click to complete the process.

I just tested this on my own site, and it worked exactly as I describe above.

Can you please confirm the site you’re working on, and give a link to a specific post where the embedded tweets no longer show?

    Hi, thanks for the answer.

As you say, I paste the URL of the link on its own line, and that’s it. This has worked fine, till today.

In my last post, I pasted 3 tweets that way. But when I pressed “Enter” for the line break, the text of the URL disappeared. If I clicked on the blank line, a frame appeared, with the buttons “Edit” (a pencil icon) and “Erase” (a X icon). Clicking “Edit”, the option “Insert object from URL” opens, with the URL of the tweet written, but nothing happens when I click the “Insert” button.

As I said, in the HTML editor the URL of the tweet does appear.

Here there are 2 of the posts where the embedded tweets disappeared:

Travesía Swim No Limits, Bahía Roses-L’Escala 15K: casi, casi, casi

(In this one, the very first line of the post is a tweet. I just checked again, and the line with the URL appears in the graphic editor, but the tweet is not shown.)

Travesía Oceanman Cap D’Agde 10K, asalto a Fort de Brescou

I prefer the old classic editor, I never liked the new one. That’s why I’m still using it. Do you think this might be the problem?

    Many thanks.

Yes, the URL is supposed to disappear, as it’s replaced by the embedded tweet directly in the editor. The fact that you see a frame shows that is happening as it should. The only issue here is the frame being empty.

Your embedded tweets in both those posts are appearing fine to me, both on the site itself and in the editor, so it’s still working on your site. If you can’t see it, it means the problem is with your browser not loading the tweets, not with your site.

Clear your browser cache, and make sure your browser allows JavaScript. If you’re using any browser add-ons, also try disabling this. Especially ad blockers and anti-tracking add-ons in this case.

Also check if you have different results using another browser.

You were right, the problem is the browser. With other browsers and other computers it all works fine.

I don’t understand, though: I’ve erased caché, upgraded Firefox, re-enabled JavaScript, I don’t have add-ons…, and I’m still experiencing the problem. I’m using Firefox 69.0.1 with Linux Mint 18.3.

    Thanks.

  • It looks like the newest version of Firefox is 69.0.3 I think it’s work trying to update it and see if that helps.
