Inserted photo affecting spacing of text
-
Hello,
When I insert a photograph and then view the page, the entire paragraph beside the photo then becomes double-spaced, while the rest of the text on the page is single-spaced. Any way to prevent the double-spacing when I insert a photo? Thanks.

it appears your blog is: http://adamschuitema.wordpress.com/
Can you post the link to the page or post that has the problem?
(its easier to see any code errors that are causing the problem) -
Sure. Thanks for your help.

This is the source code:
<hr size="1" /><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-197" title="IMG_1570" src="http://adamschuitema.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/img_15709.jpg?w=300&h=225" alt="IMG_1570" width="300" height="225" />Zeke Mockerman’s new white truck rumbled down our road, bright as a comet with a tail of country dust behind it. He pulled into our dirt driveway and extended a thin arm out the window, waving at my dad and me with a spidery hand. My dad had just heard about Zeke’s good fortune at the casino. He didn’t return Zeke’s wave.</p>
Replace the<hr size="1" /> with <p> -

Yes, it seems you fixed the spacing. I still don’t know why you had the trouble in the first place, though.

HR of course in HTML is “horizontal rule” and the code Tess pulled from the source code is not finished. It should have been
<hr size="1" />You can avoid having errors such as the above creep in on you by going to settings > writing and selecting “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” and then clicking save changes. WordPress will then automatically correct most all HTML errors for you.

@tsp,
I don’t understand?
I did show
<hr size="1" />
as the problem. But still, how did the OP bring that code in?
“horizontal rule” is not so very common or easy to mistake for other code? Especially when he did have the close < / p > without the open < p >? -
Oops, I missed the ending part of that tag in what you posted. It would have worked if the opening “p” had been right after the “hr” tag – at least it did for me in my test blog.
-
ok.
but the hr tag is not needed in the first place. What I’m wondering is how or why would the OP put it in there at all? I’ve not even seen it before and had to look up what it meant. horizontal rule.??? I’m still not sure what it means, but it seems to be like style line height?
-
No idea. It would have had to be something that was specifically added via the HTML tab, unless the text was copied and pasted from another source that brought it in.
Perhaps the OP was wanting a rule to separate things in the post. That is all speculation though.

“Copied and pasted from another source that brought it in”. That must be it: the pages are excerpts from a forthcoming book. Another one of them ends with this:
<hr size="1" /><a href="#_msoanchor_1"><br /> </a></p>
