Inserting a link to documents
-
I am trying to insert a link to a document I have installed in my Media, so that when the link is clicked it will bring up the document. I have tried following the advice in Support and when I try I just either get the document embedded or the link leads to the folder on my computer. I do not want to embed the documents as there will be a number of them 14 pages or more long and it will be unweildy. Do you have any solutions? Thanks

Hi there,
To just have a downloadable link, select the File Block in the editor, then upload and insert the file via that block:
https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/file-block/
The only document file format that’s embedded automatically is PDF, and the embed should only happen if you past the file link directly into a post or page. If you add that link via a file block, or if you hyperlink it to text inside a sentence/paragraph, it will not embed.
That said, our PDF embed feature embeds a PDF viewer in your site that only shows a page of the document at a time, so it won’t show all 14 pages at once.
