Inserting a PayPal button: what do I do when there's no "email" tab in PayPal?
-
I’ve inserted PayPal buttons via WordPress instructions before, but when I created my latest button, PayPal only provided a “website” tab and no “email” tab, which is what WordPress wants me to use. What do I do now?

Hi there!
When creating your button, did you check any of the options under the Customize Button section? If so, it wouldn’t be possible to use the generated button with WordPress.com and be Email tab wouldn’t be shown to you. You can check what this section would have looked like in the screenshot for step number 5 here:

I didn’t use the “customize button” section, but I still didn’t see the email tab. I think I need that in order to insert the button into WordPress.

I take that back. I must have used the “customized button” section. I used a drop down menu to create different pricing structures for membership renewal to our group. That must be what caused the problem.
Am I correct in assuming that I will now have to delete that button and simply ask renewing members to insert the appropriate price? If I do that, will that enable the “email” tab to show up?

Hi there.
You’re right, adding a dropdown menu for multiple prices would have caused the Email tab to not display and you can get around this by not adding the dropdown and asking your members to insert the prices.
Hope that helps! Please do let me know if that needs any clarification.

I see the problem. To avoid customization, I need to leave the price blank and it seems the only option is “donate.” I have used “donate” already and want a button that says something like “membership” or even “buy now” or “shopping cart,” but when I choose that option the system requires a price. As our prices are variable, that won’t work. Now what?

Hi there.
You could follow the steps to create a Donate button via PayPal so that your members will be able to enter the amount they wish to pay. When inserting an image for your button into your site, you can choose one that says ‘Membership’ or ‘Buy Now.’ The actual image for your button doesn’t need to say ‘Donate.’ Alternatively, you could create different buttons for each membership tier.
Let me know what you think of these options or if you have any questions around them.

I appreciate your patience. I managed to create some semblance of what I needed. My recommendation, however, is that there be another button without a required amount because even though my “buy now” button says “membership” when you get into paypal, the text around it still says “donation,” which is misleading because it’s not a donation. We really need a button that allows us to clarify what it’s for throughout the paypal page.
