Inserting a PPT into my post
-
I can’t find the right “buttons” to insert a PPT. The information I get says to find an “Upload/insert” menu, but it’s not there.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there. Powerpoint presentations can’t be embedded inside a post. If you upload them to the media library and insert them into a post you will end with a link to the document that users can then click to either read or download the document: http://en.support.wordpress.com/uploading-documents/
To embed the document in your post, see these options:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/google-docs/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/scribd/ -
Your next best bet is this: Microsoft OneDrive PowerPoint Web App which requires your PowerPoint presentation to be stored on Microsoft OneDrive.
-
Other options, depending on how you want your viewers to see it:
- Load your presentation to Slideshare and embed an iFrame into your page (click on Share and the code is there)
- Using PowerPoint 2013 or above, save your file to video format, load it onto YouTube and then embed from YouTube into WordPress

Thanx everyone.
I had already done it, apparently (as per kookieh’s instructions). It just didn’t look right, I wasn’t sure where the link would take anyone.
But also now I have the right instructions page, with good visuals to confirm my original download.
Thanx again!

Thnx kokkieh. I had apparently done it correctly, just didn’t trust myself. The link to instructions was very helpful.cboucher143

@ldhltd
iframe codes don’t work on WordPress.com – if you try to add one the software will automatically strip it out. The only embedding options that will work are the three staff-happychia and I provided, but your Youtube idea will also work well for some people, depending on the presentation. I’ll remember that one.@cboucher143
Glad we could help :) -
@kokkieh. If you use Slideshare or YouTube and you want to embed something into your WordPress.com site you CAN use the iFrame code. Paste it into the Text area and WordPress will convert it into shortcode automatically. Code like JavaScript it will strip out completely, but iFrame’s get converted and I’ve embedded Slideshare slides like this before. You’ll see Slideshare is on the list here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/shortcodes/. The problem with putting PowerPoint into Google Docs is that some of the formatting and certainly animation doesn’t always come through properly. Scribd converts to pdf doesn’t it (I’ve only used it for brochures in the past), which limits how you can use it for a presentation?

Ah, okay. I was not aware that there was a shortcode for slideshare. That is the only case where iframe codes will work, though – there are only a handful of services that are supported for the iframe-shortcode conversion – and the slideshare option is not mentioned in the other support docs on embedding powerpoints. Next time please link to the relevant support doc in your answer so we can all have the complete facts.
