Inserting a "shortcode" in a post affect social share buttons visibility
-
Hello,
I just insert a shortcode in all posts of one category. The short code list all posts of that category in each post.
http://lecturassumergidas.com/2014/06/27/no15-junio-2014__/
The problem i have is that, sometimes, mainly the first time i load a post of that category, the shorcode loads perfectly but the social-share-buttoms ( that i have force vía CSS to be shown just after the title of the post, up in the post, not at the end of the article content as it is by default) don´t appear. When this happens, if i reload the post, then everything, including the social-share-buttons, appears correctly.
I tried to move all the css code related to “force social-share-buttons to be shown up in the post” (after the title) to the end of my CSS style sheet but problem is still there.
When I use no shortcode in the post, then, the social-share-buttoms loads, are shown, always perfectly up in the post.
Any help will be really apreciated.
Thanks
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I don’t see the social icons appearing under and of your single post titles (I don’t see them anywhere but I can’t read Spanish so that probably doesn’t help!). You have 363 custom CSS rules so figuring out what is causing the issue might be complicated.
Can you link to a post where the social icons are appearing as expected?
-
Hello @hallluke, thanks for your reply.
here it is a screenshot of one of the posts where the problem happens. The Social-counters appear as they should (you can see it in the image), but only sometimes, mainly when i reload the page. This problem, as i said, only happens in the posts that includes shortcodes.
example of the post with the social icons appears as they should.
Here it is the link to the page:
This is the link of the post that you can see in the previous screenshot
I checked it with Chrome latest, ie latest and firefox latest, so seems that it is not a browser problem related.
I know my css style sheet is big (I really try to make my site look better and different), so i realize that this problem can be difficult to track.
Anyway, if there is no solution, I can coexist with it cos just happens in very few posts (one category).
Thanks again.

I think the level of customisation on your site is amazing!
I’ve just tried viewing the problematic post with the shortcodes, and the next most recent post without the shortcodes in Safari, Chrome, Opera, and Firefox and they all worked just fine but I had to turn Adblock Plus off in Firefox (my default browser) for it to display the social links on either of the posts.
If you have Adblock Plus or any other browser extensions can you try turning them off and seeing if that makes a difference? And follow the browser issues instructions to see if clearing the browser cache and cookies helps too.

Thaks again @halluke
I tried without adblock; i tried in incognito mode in chrome (no extension active ); I tried cleaning browser cache… nothing changes…
As far as i can see, it is not a problem with the browser (what ever it is). It´s, i think, something related to using shortcodes in wordpress.com posts and how they interact, the shortcodes, with the CSS style that set position:absolute to the .sharedaddy…
… but I don´t know how to solve it. :(
-
Can you try on a different computer? Without Adblock Plus running it looks fine for me on all browsers even though you’re using the shortcode, that would lead me to believe it’s something local to either your browser or your computer. Testing out a bit more would certainly help narrow it down one way or the other.
To approach it from the other side too can you try removing all the CSS relating to the styling of the display posts shortcode and see if that makes the social icons re-appear for you (the bits like .display-posts-listing .listing-item).
-
Yes, i tried on other computer, a Mac using Chrome and Safari (latest versions)…and even on a 7`nexus table (with chrome)… exactly same problem still there.
The second approach… no, I didn´t try yet… a bit of a mesh due to the complexity of my css custom style sheet, but i will check it.
Thanks for your time @halluke.

Hmm it’s strange that it works for me but not for you, keep me posted on any progress you make!
I’m going to tag this for staff to look into just because it sounds like we need a new pair of eyes to check things out. If it is a CSS issue then they might not be able to help because custom CSS is unsupported (although a number of the happiness engineers are CSS maestros) and you have a lot to work through!
If, however, it is something else causing a clash between the social links and the shortcode they should be able to investigate.
(@staff sorry in advance!)

Hi Nacho,
I just checked the post you mentioned and the sharing buttons appeared right away on the page, without having to refresh anything. It’s hard to say why they aren’t appearing for you.
Can you please try temporarily disabling your Chrome extensions at chrome://extensions/ to see if that makes a difference? (Some extensions are still loaded in Chrome’s incognito mode, so it’s best to disable them entirely while checking this.)
-
Thanks @rachelmcr. I have no extensions on firefox and IE (latests versions) but the problem, as in chrome incognito, also happens on those browsers…
-
Thanks for letting me know. Can you please follow the steps to check Chrome’s console for errors? That may point us to a reason why the sharing buttons aren’t showing up for you.

Is this is what you asked me about? here it is… (thanks @Rachelmcr)

Yes, thank you. I’ve investigated this, and none of these are errors that would cause the problem you’re seeing with the sharing buttons. Unfortunately, because I’ve also been unable to reproduce the problem on my end, I’m not sure what’s happening.
You mentioned that you tried checking this with different browsers and different computers/devices. Have you also checked this from a different internet connection, with a different internet service provider? I’d like to see if the problem is specific to your connection, since it doesn’t seem to be specific to a browser or device.
-
All tests i did -different browsers and devices- used the same internet connection (spain/movistar/Fiber 100megas download-10megas upload).
I´ll try to check it with a different internet connection. Anyway, the problem also exist when i activate a VPN -so accesing to wp.com, my site, vía Germany, UK…- in my computer.
Thanks a lot @rachelmcr.
-
@unbosquedeteverde, is this still an issue for you? Did you get a chance to test from a different internet connection?
-
Hello @thesacredpath,
thanks for your reply,
I did it once, using 4g with my tablet, and the problem -randomly-was still there, so I decided to turn off the social counters in the pages and posts where i insert shortcodes in the #primary space.
One last thing i have checked: When i insert shortcodes in the #secondary (widget area) there is no problem with the loading process of the social counter in the related page or post.
Thanks again Thesacred.

Hmm, can you post the shortcode you were using where this was an issue and I’ll do some testing. If I can reproduce it, then I can file a bug report on it.
Also, if you can tell me which browsers/devices you experience this problem on, it would help in testing.
