Inserting an image into a post

Hi, I have not posted on my blog for 8 months or so. The new dashboard is different. Today, when I try, I can’t insert an image into my post no matter what I try.
The “Edit Post” page has a line with Upload/Insert, and several icons including “add image”. I appear to have successfully uploaded the image to wordpress. But I don’t have an insert button to get it into the post. The image shows in my media library. Yet it doesn’t show in the post, even if I try to preview it.
The words “Upload/Insert” are not clickable. All the icons are “Add” icons. Using the HTML display I can apparently insert an image URL, but I don’t know the wordpress URLs; they don’t appear in the media library.
When I click the Add Image button, I see the image under both “Media Library” and “Gallery”. All the pics say, though, is “Save all Changes” or a “Show/Hide” button. Doesn’t seem to help, whatever I click, I still get no image in the post.
I must be doing something really simple wrong. Please help :) .

Well, I tried forcing a refresh, and clearing the cache, and still don’t see “Insert into Post” anywhere around the image I want to use in the post I uploaded it to.
