Inserting comment page
-
Hello. I’m real new at this and missing something obvious. Can anybody give me advice on allowing someone to leave a comment on posts at my blog. In the “write” field of my dashboard I have the comments enabled box checked but they don’t seem to go anywhere. From other blogs I’ve surfed people have a “comments” tag show up. what is the strategy here? Do I need a comments tag and a new page? Is there a widget I need to install? Pls. help.

Hello Vivianpaige:
I’ve viewed your blog and what I’m trying to do is allow people to leave comments like they can on your blog, How do I do that?

I just left you a comment. I think you are not understanding how the comments work. On your blog, one has to click on “1 comment” or “No comments” (which appear just under the title of the post) in order to access the comment area. Every theme is a little different as far as how to access the comment area but the results are the same.

I have another question. I noticed that when I create a new page, there is only one comment allowed for all post. It’s not like the home page where you can post a lot of articles and then the date will show and then each post will have their own comment box. What I discover is that every page is considered one post so even if you edit the page and post as many articles as you want, there will be only one comment trail at the bottom since the comment box is for that particular page and not for the number of post you did. I’m just wondering if WordPress can make other pages you’ve created appear exactly the same as your home page where all posts can be displayed with corresponding dates and a comment box each.

Pages that you create do not operate as the main blog page does. Pages are for static content, or content that you do not change regularly, such as an about page.
This FAQ should help to understand things: http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/11/11/a-post-and-a-page/

Is this related? (Or wrong thread?) My client’s blog consists of educational posts. Client wants *generic* comments/questions from visitors (i.e., not necessarily related to a specific post, but rather, to the broad subject area of the site).
Is there a way to “add fields” to the “comments” section? (e.g., mailing address?) So the client may send brochures? – Or at least add prompting text to that effect?

I think what you want will be a contact page and then tell the reader to include their mailing address if they want additional information sent to them: http://faq.wordpress.com/2007/05/13/how-do-i-make-a-contact-form/
