Inserting Photos

  I’ve had a really hard time simply inserting a photo. I did an entry in which I put three photos side by side in the gallery. Then I tried to separately add a fourth photo large size. Sometimes it showed up in the gallery too. When I deleted it from the gallery, it also deleted the large individual one at the bottom. Then I added the photo thru add media. I also tried browser vs. flash to add photo but sometimes it worked and other times it showed up with the red x. How can I insert a photo separately from the gallery without adding it to the gallery and making sure it works without a red x? Thanks.
