Inserting read-only / un-savable pdfs
-
Does anyone know how to attach a pdf to a post and not allow a viewer to save it? I would rather not allow them to use the big ‘Save As’ button in the toolbar, or mouse-click.
Thanks! -
If you have the full version of Acrobat (not just reader or a third party PDF creation program, then you can set security on the PDF and disable copy and paste and such, but the thing to remember is that not all PDF viewers (third party) honor the security settings so it is not a complete solution.
The other thing to remember, is that if you click on a PDF on the web, and it opens in your browser or a PDF viewer, it has already been downloaded to your computer in its entirety.
ANYTHING you post on the web can be copied in one way or another and it is something people fight on an ongoing basis. Sadly there is a segment of the population out there that believes that anything posted on the internet is free for the taking.
Disabling right click takes javascript, and javascript is not allowed here at wordpress.COM due to security concerns, and it is not foolproof. All someone has to do if right click is disabled is to take a screenshot of the information.

Or look at the sourcecode. It’s dead easy.
I suggest you simply do not use the world’s most powerful communication tool for things you don’t want to share. It’s just not practical.
