Inset box: text wrap options
-
hi there, see the picture. I wrote a middle school English textbook and in the print version, I used inset boxes like the blue one below for definitions and clarifications. Now I’m converting the book to a website. To make the inset boxes (I actually don’t know the technical name for them, but whatever, that’s why I have a picture), I make a columns block divided into two columns and make one of them the inset box and the other side continues the main text.
The problem is that sometimes the text in the columns block is a continuation of text from the paragraph block above, or the text continues in a paragraph block below. That leaves a space between the paragraph text and the text in the columns block. With an image I can just use text wrapping, but the only way I can think of making the inset box is with a columns block and there’s always a space that I can’t seem to avoid. Do you have any ideas on how to eliminate the space between the paragraph block and the text in the columns block? Or do you have a better way to achieve this?

There is no quick solution for your problem. But why don’t you use footnotes – https://wordpress.com/support/how-to-add-footnotes/

Thanks, for college age readers that would be fine, but this is for students from 11 to 14 years old; I think footnotes break the flow too much for young readers. Plus I also like the way colored boxes break up the page. Thanks anyway!
