Instagram embedding not working properly
-
When embedding the instagram link or embed code, the post is embedded but the image isn’t showing, instead the instagram icon and the text ‘View more on Instagram’ are displayed. This is also to see in the WP help article about how to embed Instagram posts, so it really seems there’s an issue with the way WP handles the code. Anyone could workaround this issue?

Hi there,
Yep, you should be able to embed Instagram posts, so this sounds like a possible bug.
Could you please confirm which editor you’re using? For example, are you using the new block editor? Also, is the image not showing in the editor or in the post? There’s currently a known issue about Instagram embeds not working in the editor of the block editor. If it’s a specific post where the embed isn’t appearing in, could you please provide a URL?
Thanks!

Hi there,
Where on your site did you embed an Instagram image? I don’t see Instagram images embedded in any of the posts on your site, and you don’t have the Instagram widget enabled either.
I just tried embedding some Instagram posts on a test site using both the block and the classic editor, and they all embedded fine for me.
This is also to see in the WP help article about how to embed Instagram posts, so it really seems there’s an issue with the way WP handles the code.
Are you speaking of https://en.support.wordpress.com/instagram/instagram-images/?
The Instagram image embedded on that page is working fine for me.

Hi both, thanks a lot for your prompt replies!
I am using the embedded WP.com editor for new posts, I tried both the Visual and the HTML editors.
Since it was’t working, I eventually decided to not embed the IG link in the post and rather try to understand how to fix it, nonetheless, I can see the exact same issue on https://en.support.wordpress.com/instagram/instagram-images/, on the embedded IG post after the sentence “That’s it! By default, the URL embeds the largest size of the image available, which is 612px wide. Video embeds look very similar but will show the triangle “play” symbol:”
If you guys are seeing that post properly, then I presume there might be something wrong with my browser, I’m using Chrome, however, also tested this on Safari and the same happens.
Thanks again for looking into this!

I checked again and the embed is working fine for me on that support page.
It might be your internet connection rather than your browser.
If possible, can you try checking on a different connection? Like tethering to your phone or using free wifi at a library or coffee shop?
You can also try unplugging your router for a few seconds to clear it’s cache, switching your computer or router to a custom DNS service like one.one.one.one or Google DNS, and flushing your computer’s DNS cache (instructions for these last two options will vary depending on your computer’s operating system, so please search online for the correct process for your setup.)

Thanks again for your reply.
It works from my phone under the very same connection.
Hence, I tried with another computer with a different OS both under the same network as well as a different one with different provider, but it doesn’t work. I also tried flushing DNS cache and using Google DNS, but no luck.
I wondered if this my have to do with Language/Region settings, as I am using ES/Spain on phone but EN-US/Spain on the computers, I tried all possible combos, but nothing.I guess this works for you from a computer, not only phone, right?
I’m gonna check with some friends in different Spain locations if it works for them from a computer.
Thanks a lot for trying to help me out with this issue!

Hi –
Please report back to let us know your findings.
I can also see the support page properly, and the embeds are working there.
I do not see any Instagram embeds on your posts or site though.
