Instagram Widget Not Working
-
For the past few weeks, the Instagram widget on my blog (transportnsw.wordpress.com) has not been working. Instead of displaying my Instagram feed, I get an error message stating ‘There was an error retrieving images from Instagram. An attempt will be remade in a few minutes.’

Hi there,
This might be related to some upcoming changes on Instagram’s end – they’re retiring the API that the widget uses to connect to your account on that end and replacing it with a new one, so we also need to change how the widget works on our end to account for that.
Please try removing the widget from your site, adding a new one, and re-authenticating that with Instagram. Let me know if that doesn’t work.

Hi Kokkieh,
I’m having issues with the Instagram widget too.I’ve followed all the steps to reinstall it – I’ve had it working successfully previously – now after reinstalling the blue box says ‘connecting’ but it doesn’t and then it opens up a new box with a long script in the box and I cannot move forward.
I have done the usual things such as disconnect the widget then try again (numerous times) and am still not having any luck.On my WordPress page it reads – In order to use this Instagram widget, you must configure it first.
This is what I am unable to do.Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

On what site is this?
If the connection process won’t complete, do the following:
First, check your browser settings to make sure third-party cookies are allowed, and if you’re using any privacy add-ons in your browser, temporarily disable those.
In your browser, go to https://www.instagram.com/accounts/manage_access/ and if you see WordPress listed there, remove it.
Next, clear your browser cookies, or at the very least all Instagram and Facebook cookies. Keep in mind that clearing cookies for any site will log you out of that particular site.
Log back into your Instagram account in your browser, and then go to your site and try connecting the widget again.
If it still won’t work, try using a different browser. Safari and Chrome specifically have been making some recent changes to no longer allow cookies by default, which could be contributing here, so see if doing this via Firefox works if you’re using one of those two browser.

Thank you so much for that.
I’ve gone through those steps and am using Firefox.
However the connecting button is still whizzing on WordPress, so looking like it is still trying to complete the action.
And opens up a new window with this –
https://public-api.wordpress.com/connect/?action=created&id=23842231&kr_nonce=aec50317d8&service=instagram-basic-display&blog=5836086&kr_blog_nonce=adbd136650&magic=keyring#_But the WordPress does show up on the Instagram as though it is connected.
And the Instagram on my blog page shows up still as –
In order to use this Instagram widget, you must configure it first. So the same problems are occurring.

@lifeincamelot are you by any chance using the new Firefox’s Facebook Container? That would cause Instagram to open in a new, protected tab and will not allow the process to complete.
If that’s the case, turn off the extension temporarily, log into your Instagram account and follow the steps to reconnect it. -

Update.
When turning the Firebook Facebook container back on it wipes Instagram off my WordPress site again. But at least I’m aware of this now.
