Hi,
I need to make my wordpress site mobile friendly and have checked out Jetpack which seems fine. However, I am unable to add this plugin. Could you kindly advise how to do this or any other way can get the site mobile friendly?
Many thanks,Milancia

The jetpack plugin is for wordpress.ORG sites. It provides those with wordpress.ORG software installs with parity with wordpress.COM sites which already have built-in plugins.

The mobile ready theme is a default theme and a completely different theme that you do not need to enable, if your theme is listed as a responsive layout theme here https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/responsive-layout/
The mobile default theme is provided for those who run older themes that aren’t the gold standard which is responsive layout.
A responsive layout theme adapts to different screen sizes so that your website will work (and be optimized for) iPhones, iPads, Android and other mobile devices. When responsive width themes are viewed on mobiles sidebars appear below the posts in order to provide as much space as possible for reading.
When we use a responsive theme we disable the mobile theme. Go to >Dashboard > Appearance > Mobile and disable the mobile theme
You can read more in the support docs at https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/mobile-themes/
You can test your site at this link https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/

Structure is an old retired theme that no longer supports all wordpress.com features. The recommendation is to switch to an newer theme. See here 57 Black + Responsive Layout WordPress Themes
https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/responsive-layout+black/?sort=freeThat’s a very old retired theme. The recommendation is to switch themes because themes are retired when they no longer support all wordpress.COM features.
Each theme is uniquely designed. The detailed theme description page with setup instructions for the example I will use is here https://wordpress.com/themes/twentysixteen/ and the live demo site is here https://twentysixteendemo.wordpress.com/
re: switching themes
Themes are just “skins” on WordPress.COM hosted blogs. You can quickly and easily change themes on any WordPress.COM hosted blog to another one found here http://wordpress.com/themes/ and no data will be lost or negatively affected by the change. The only time you may have to do a lot of work is if you are changing to a dramatically different theme with different features and/or if you have done any CSS editing.
Provided you are logged in as Admin under the same username account that registered the blog go to Dashboard > Appearance > Themes, Browse themes until you find one you like and click the “activate” or the “preview” link, or type in the name of the theme you want to use when it appears.
The theme customizer https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer/ provides a preview function for exactly that purpose ie. so you can view what a theme will appear like prior to changing one.

Thank you for your prompt response. So do you advise that I change to a responsive theme?
