Install plugins

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello.
Why am I always prompted to upgrade my account to business plan for me to install plug-ins?. Is it not supposed to be free to install some plug-ins?
My friends don’t face the same issues and they are not asked to upgrade before installing.
Please I need an explanation on that.
    Thanks

  • Hi there,

I understand your concern regarding plugins and our Business plan. Let me help clarify things for you.

While the WordPress software itself is indeed free, websites need a “home” on the internet. This home is provided by hosting providers like WordPress.com. Think of it as the space where your website lives and functions, similar to renting an apartment for living.

Your friends might be using other hosting providers that have different plans for WordPress installations. Each hosting provider sets its own rules and offers its own plans, which can differ in terms of features, pricing, and restrictions.

At WordPress.com, for users to have the flexibility to install plugins, our Business plan is a requirement. It’s not just about the plugins, though. The Business plan comes packed with features like 50GB of storage space, unlimited video hosting, advanced SEO tools, 24/7 live chat support, and so much more. You can learn more here: https://wordpress.com/support/plan-features/business-plan/

If you’re interested, you can quickly upgrade below.

If you have more questions or need assistance in evaluating the right plan for your needs, I’m here to help.
