Install Redis

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I’m working on a client website and they asked me to install Varnish or Redis or any other plugin that enables caching. These types of plugins have to be install on the server first and then as a plugin, so I was wondering if I have access to this website server to be able to install Varnish/Redis/etc.

The site I need help with is vandaboavida.com/. It is not hosted by WordPress.com or connected with Jetpack. This site is not linked to my WordPress.com account.

We can’t help you as your site isn’t running on the wordpress.com platform. You won’t get and don’t need access to the server of your hosting, as wordpress.org has several cache plugins, https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-super-cache/

  • Hi there,

You are posting in the support forums for the hosting provider, WordPress.com. The site you indicated is not hosted on our servers, but using the open source WordPress.org software, hosted with https://www.register.it/

Your client will need to contact their hosting provider for help with installing anything directly to the server itself. Though personally I’ve never heard of any WordPress plugin that requires you to install anything to the server directly before you can install the plugin itself. So you might want to double check the instructions for the plugin you want to use, and contact support for that plugin directly if anything is unclear.

Also keep in mind that the hosting provider might already be providing caching features, in which case any caching plugins you install might result in conflicts which can break the site. So it will be best to consult with the hosting provider first in this case.

For general help with the WordPress software you’re using on that site, you can ask the WordPress.org community at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
