Hello, I am new to wordpress and I want to ask about installing theme, I saw a wp template that I plan to purchase: https://civi.uxper.co/

Do I need to buy the business subscription just to install it? $400 is so expensive for just needing to instal a template!

    WP.com: Yes
    Jetpack: No

There is no way round but if you want install a third party theme or plugin, you must upgrade tot the Business Plan.

My client is not believing this, he thinks that the theme comes with wp installation and support, I told him so but he didn’t buy it,so I decided to ask to make sure.

  • Hey @amjadmesmar, if it helps, our service includes SSL hosting, direct WordPress support, spam protection, backups, maintenance, security, and other services and features that don’t come with the free software. Basically, as a service, we’ll have your back in ways that the free software itself cannot. Extra code like plugins and outside themes can complicate the service we’re offering, so we require the Business Plan for plugin installation.

Or, you are welcome to use your own free copy of WordPress with another host, and use community resources or hired contractors if you don’t have time to take care of security, spam filtering, backups, support, and maintenance yourself.

Let us know if you have questions!

Hello @supernovia, thanks for clarification! so Installing a theme only comes with a business plan correct?

also If I want to add my customized code to wp website I will also need the business plan?

Yes you need the Business Plan for both.

It’s disappointing to know, As a developer with very tight budget, $400 is too much to just install a theme and customize through code.

Maybe WP is great but I would never know since I cant test it to it’s full potential.

  • I understand, @amjadmesmar. If you’re a developer on a budget, have you considered trying out WordPress on shared hosting instead of managed hosting? You’d just need to stay on top of updates, backups, security, etc. You can even try it out with a localhost installation. Please be aware a DIY copy of the free code isn’t part of our service, but the code does have a great community at WordPress.org. If you’re serious about learning WordPress as a developer, frankly I’d recommend running your own instance for a while so you know what you need to do for your clients, or company, or yourself.

Once you have client or a live site, I think you’ll find your time over the course of a year is worth worth more than the cost of the Business Plan; our prices are quite competitive with good managed hosts, and our expertise with WordPress is top notch. We’ll be here when you’re ready!
