Install Theme

I apologize in advance for asking the same question that several other people have already asked, but I have yet to find an answer…If themes can’t be uploaded to wordpress.com, then how does someone use a “wordpress theme”? I have a wordpress.com account, and a self hosted site, and I have downloaded the “wordpress download” from wordpress.org…So, what’s the point of having “wordpress themes” if you can’t use them with wordpress?

Very simple. WordPress.com is a shared environment and the themes in use here have been highly customized to fit that environment. The themes available to WordPress.com users are the ones we find in our dashboards under Appearance>Themes and new themes are being added all the time. Additionally you can further customize any of those themes with the Custom Design Upgrade.
Any “WordPress” theme you find outside the Dashboard is meant for the standalone WordPress software.
You can read more about the differences here. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

There are two different “flavors” of WordPress. This is a WPMU (wordpress multiuser blogging patform). http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.com blogs and we cannot upload third-party themes or edit templates or themes. Those found on the internet are for WordPress.ORG installs which run on different software.

So…wordpress themes are useless or not? I think it’s the .php thing that’s throwing me off…I will inform my clients that I don’t do “wordpress” blog stuff…”com” or “org”…Thank you for the same vague copy and paste response you gave every other person “justjennifer” and “timethief”.

Yes indeed you could have found the answer to your question in the searchbox. There is no FTP access to free hosted wordpress.com blogs and you cannot install any third party themes. Is that clear for you now?

You might want to try posting here > http://wordpress.org/support/forum/themes-and-templates

Yes, if you need to install a theme you purchased or found on the internet, then you must find someone to host your site, download the (free) wordpress software from wordpress.ORG, and do all the details to set up and maintain your site.
wordpress.COM is free: hosting, software, maintenance, and all. but there are restrictions here.
Please read the info you have been given in the previous posts more carefully.
