Hello – I’d like to use the TA Portfolio theme (http://portfolio.themeart.co/)for my wordpress site. Is there a way to install this in wordpress.com? The appearance/themes tab doesn’t offer the add new option.

    thanks,

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

In a single word the answer is no. You cannot use any third party themes on any blog hosted by WordPress.COM. You are confusing WordPress.COM hosted blogs with WordPress.ORG installs. There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.com blogs for security reasons and we cannot upload any third party themes. There is no upgrade you can purchase here that changes that reality.

WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

The only themes we can use on WordPress.com hosted blogs are licensed and adapted to run on our multiuser software the themes are found here http://wordpress.com/themes/ and in your dashboard at > Appearance > Themes

There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.com blogs for security reasons and we cannot:
    upload any third party themes,
    create child themes,
    create our own themes,
    edit templates,
    create own own layouts,
or use stylesheets from other themes.

    Relevant support docs:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/

WordPress.org offers free software that you can install on a web server. You can create themes, upload and install themes and plugins, run ads, and edit the database, etc. If you want FTP access and to install plugins or third party themes into a site then you will have to hire a web host http://wordpress.org/hosting/ and set up your own WordPress.org install.

If you want to get a WordPress.ORG install and you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive the advice of WordPress.ORG bloggers. For hiring a web host see https://wordpress.org/hosting and then you can set up your own wordpress.org install.

Thanks for the info – I understand. One final question – I’m having difficulty embedding content onto my wordpress.com site – is that not possible on wordpress.com?

What kind of content? Be very specific and link to it please.

Here is an example of one link to a storehouse story: //www.storehouse.co/stories/r0ci9-free-night-at-the-museum/embed

also, my soundslides project is also not embedding properly and neither is a resume using an embed code from scribd… several maps do seem to be embedding properly
