Installing a new theme via FTP, HELP!
-
I purchased the extra storage and css from wordpress. My question is, how do I upload my own theme (currently in my computer) to my wordpress blog via ftp?
I do not have a third party hosting, I thought that’s what the 5GB I paid to wordpress was for. Please advise.
Thanks
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

From the support document on the CSS upgrade
Does the CSS upgrade let me upload my own theme?
Not exactly. You can use the CSS upgrade with a “Skin” for the Sandbox theme, since these are normally CSS stylesheets. So the answer is, there is no FTP access here at wordpress.COM and we cannot upload themes found on the internet. And no, the CSS from the theme you downloaded will not work with the themes here. Each theme designer writes there own CSS and they name the selectors differently, so CSS ends up being theme specific.
To use the themes found on the internet, you would have to self-host a blog on a third-party hosting service using the software downloaded from wordpress .ORG.

Great explanation, you solved my problem.
The problem I was having is that I have the basic godaddy hosting which comes free with my domain. It would not allow me to use it with wordpress unless I upgraded to a more expensive plan, that is if you don’t know how to work the system.
If you do, all you have to do is download wordpress from wordpress.org and upload it to your host account via ftp. -
I’m not sure why godaddy is making things so difficult for wordpress users. You are not the first person that has said something along these lines, and there have been a few that have said that godaddy support would not even help out with problems on wordpress installations. It’s interesting that they are listed on the wordpress.ORG hosting page: http://wordpress.org/hosting/ . Perhaps wordpress should rethink their inclusion.
