Installing a theme

  I’ve purchased a domain name through wordpress – it is not a “.com” site. I’m looking to adjust the theme so that I have more of a static homepage that then links to blog, services, ect…. This is the theme I’m interested in using:

  How do I go about installing/applying this to my site? Thanks!

  Hi Amanda,

  WordPress.com only allows themes hosted on WordPress.com to be used on their site. You’re not allowed to install outside themes. However, you can choose from over 220 different themes on the WordPress.com site.

  Amanda, not sure you knew this, but you can change your home page to display a static page and not a blog post through your Settings.

  This takes two parts:
  Part 1
  What you’ll need to do first is to create a page for your home page.
  From your Dashboard:

  1. Select Pages > Add New
  2. Add a Title to the page (it can be whatever you want)
  3. Add the content you want on the home page of your site
  4. Publish the page

  Part 2
  Set the new page as your home page. In your Dashboard:

  1. Select Settings > Reading
  2. In the “Front page displays section” select the option A static page
  3. In the “Front page dropdown menu”, select the name of the page you just created
  4. Scroll to the bottom and select Save changes

  Amanda, you will likely need to update your navigation menu and add a page for posts. Check out this page for more information about setting static home pages, posts and navigation menus.

  If you want the home page layout of the Responsive Multipurpose Theme for your site hosted on WordPress.com, you may want to look at other themes in the Theme Showcase.

  Just to make it clear, even if when you purchase your domain and domain mapping through WordPress.com, your site is still hosted here on WordPress.com and the same limitations apply. See the Same Rules Apply note on this page: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/register-domain/
