Installing an SSL certificate
-
Hi, I bought a domain with a service which doesn’t provide any hosting. I now bought an ~SSL from another service who told me I need to instal that SSL cert on WordPress. I am pointing the domain onto my word press blog but the message not secure comes up. How do I instal my SSL certificate. My domain is very expensive, it is a london domain. I don’t have a hosting deal with WordPress at the moment and I am worried it might be very dear because my domain was very dear. I can’t afford that much as I am only a volunteer for Neighbourhood Watch

Hi @jkaschke, if you’re hosting the site here on our servers, SSL is included. You won’t need an outside SSL certificate.
If it’s with another host, you’ll ask that host how to install SSL. They may require you to choose a plan with a dedicated IP address, or something along those lines, but you will need to check with them.
And if you’re not sure where you are hosted, could you send a link to the site in question? We’ll check it out and point you in the right direction for support.

Good morning thanks. To explain.
I purchased the domain Thnwa.london from domain monster. Domain monster say they joined with 223 reg. domain monster themselves have stopped hosting. I pointed the domain with cloaked pointing onto my wordpress blog but visitors got the message that the site is not secure. I contacted 123 reg who told me I have to purchase an SSL certificate and then instal it on WordPress. I had no hosting for Thnwa.london then but got the certificate because domain monster gave me a url specific email address.
I then realised that I was unable to instal the ssl into WordPress. So then 123 reg wanted to charge me for transferring the domain to them, when it already cost me a lot of money for the ssl, 133 reg offered hosting via WordPress. I have now got hosting from WordPress directly for Thnwa.london and I contacted 123 reg and asked for my money back for the ssl. -
There seems to be some confusion so let’s clear it first.
There is WordPress.com and WordPress.org, and they are two different entities. We, WordPress.com, are a cloud-based platform where we manage WordPress sites, whereas WordPress.org is stand-alone software that you can download and self-host with any other hosting (like 123reg).
You can find more details about WordPress.com and WordPress.org on this support page:
https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/
So it’s an entirely different thing if you host your site with 123reg or with WordPress.com (us).
I checked the domain Thnwa.london and it seems to be correctly mapped to your WordPress.com site thnwalondon.wordpress.com, where the primary address is thnwa.org. As @supernovia mentioned above, every domain (either registered or mapped) on WordPress.com will have our own SSL certificate and this is no different. Because of that, you do not need to install any certificate purchased elsewhere.I hope that makes sense :)

Thank you yes, I understand that thnwa.london is mapped but when I put thnwa.london into a web search I can’t get any result for the URL doens’t land on a web page and the bing search results do not react to it. Is it too early because it may take a few days to sink in?
Kind Regards -
Hi there,
You’re right. It’s too early. Your site is only one day old. So, it can take Bing and other search engines a few weeks to crawl the site, index it, and begin including it in their search results.
You can see more about that here:
https://wordpress.com/support/seo/
One thing you can do which might speed up the process slightly is to register and verify your site with the various search engines:

Thank you its always worth talking to you guys, I would not have noticed that my thnwa.london domain wasn’t primary, thanks to you I have now changed it and things are wonderful. Thank you very much indeed. Hope you have a nice day.
