Installing custom theme

  Do I need a business plan in order to upload a custom theme? My friends were able to do it with the free plan, but it is prompting me to upgrade for that.

  Yes, your site must be on a business or e-commerce plan if you want to add any custom theme to your site.

  My friends were able to do it with the free plan, but it is prompting me to upgrade for that.

  – WordPress.com does not allow to upload the custom theme on the free plan. Are you sure your friend was using the WordPress.com platform It might be WordPress.org platform? On WordPress.org, you can add any custom theme easily on your site.
