    Hey there,

The free blogs at WordPress.com don’t enable add-ons, FTP, or third party CMS software. WordPress.com *is* the content managment system. If you’re looking for that degree of control, you may want to consider a self-hosted domain.

For a complete summary of the differences between free hosted wordpress.com blogs like the one linked to your username and free wordpress software installs for self hosting please read. > http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Thanks to both of you for the reply.

I once used to be a bit of a computer geek but seems I am now way out of touch. What happened to HTML?! lol :D

WordPress runs on php and the php creates HTML on the fly. But that’s neither here nor there. What you want to do cannot be done. :) You’re welcome from me and best wishes with your blogging. :)

Joomla and WordPress are different content management systems. WordPress is specifically blogging software, whereas Joomla can do all kinds of other stuff; it’s “bigger” in that sense. So you could install WordPress in a Joomla site, but not really the other way around.

The software from wordpress.ORG make an exceptional content management system, and is far easier to use than Joomla. Joomla has a lot of built-in capabilities, which makes for a steeper learning curve, but does mean that “out of the box” it has more features.

With wordpress, many of the features built into Joomla have to be accomplished using plugins (and there are literally thousands and thousands of plugins). This is an extra bit of work on the front end of a site setup, but it does allow you to add only the features you need, whereas with Joomla, you may get a lot of things you never really use.

I develop sites using both Joomla and WordPress, and which I recommend is based on current and future client needs.

With WordPress, most times I can set things up and then turn it all over to the client since it is so easy to use. With Joomla, I usually have to stay involved unless the client has the drive to learn and run the backend.

    • WordPress = low maintenance and nearly anyone can learn to use and maintain it.
    • Joomla = higher maintenance and you need to be higher up on the “geek” scale
    • Drupal = highest maintenance and you better have a high level geek on staff or on retainer

Oh god, yes Drupal. Drupal can do anything probably including launch nuclear weaponry, but it’s the last refuge of people who still miss the C prompt. If you think in binary, it’s for you.

*rotflol* at the Drupal comment :D

Thanks a lot for that TSP. The info is much appreciated.

I come from an old school background in computers and web design…graduated in 2002!

So I’m now a bit behind the times and just want a simple blog where I can add some movie clips now and again.
However it does need to have simplicity, functionality but look professional.

I’ll put those keywords into the ‘Theme’ and see what comes up!

I like the themes but would like to customise them somehow…guess I need to read a bit! :D
