Installing local version of wordpress website on my mac

    I am trying to install a local version of an existing wordpress site on my mac so that I can edit it locally in dreamweaver and put it back on the remote server when done. I have installed MAMP and placed a fresh install of wordpress inside the htdocs folder. From here, I am able to access my new blank site via https://localhost:8888/mynewsite/. However, when I download my existing site and place that site within htdocs, alongside that new wp install, I am not able to access it. Safari cannot access the server ‘localhost’. At one point, i was able to see the site listed as an index directory, but the page still did not load correctly. What am I doing wrong? I suspect I am mishandling .htaccess, wp-config, or database files.

    That site is not on our WordPress.COM servers. You are posting to the wrong support forum and or relying on the wrong support documentation.

    WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums.     (1) local installs of wordpress.ORG software on your own server     or
