Installing Plugins on WordPress.com

I’m learning as I go here — I was trying to install a plugin from Leadpages to my WordPress.com account, but can’t seem to find out where, although several of the tutorials I’ve viewed make it look simple. Then I realized they may be showing the downloadable version of WP. I purchased WP.com Premium edition ($99/yr) to get my site up and running but wondering if I should have just downloaded it to my hard drive. Is there a major difference and, if I download WP locally, would I then have two running in parallel? Can I only load plugins to the downloadable version? Hopefully this question makes sense. Thanks.

You’re on the right track. Plugins cannot be installed on a WordPress.com hosted site. If the Leadpages plugin is necessary for what you’re wanting to do, then the downloadable WordPress sounds like the way to go. However, there’s more to it than running it locally. For anyone else to see your content, the site needs to be hosted and have a domain pointing to it. Here’s the guide for that: https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-to-a-self-hosted-wordpress-site/2/

I forgot to mention that if you go with your own hosting, you’ll want to cancel the Premium plan within 30 days of purchase to receive a refund.

Thanks for the guidance here. Yes, I will definitely need the plugins to have everything linked up. I’m going to go ahead and cancel the premium hosted plan and will pursue the downloadable version.

    Thanks,
