Installing wordpress on windows 7

  I am a greenhorn to all this domain name and webhosting stuff.Please I need your help.I am trying to design my website from some videos I have watched.apparently,I cant upload a theme outside the ones on wordpress.com; Also how do I install wordpress on my windows 7? My site is been hosted by wordpress and I purchased my domain name from whogoghost.com ( I guess it is not one of the popular ones;It was recommended to me).I am a newbie on all this.Please assist me.Thanks.

  Hi there,
  You need to understand that there are two types of WordPress. One is the self hosted version ( WordPress.org) and the other is WordPress.com. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. You can learn more about the differences between both from here.

  Coming to you question about customising your site with a theme, here is a handy support document that will help you with that.
  https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/
  Themes available on WordPress.com are not always available for WordPress.org and similarly WordPress.org themes will not be available for WordPress.com due to security reasons. Hence you have to pick one of the themes that is available at WordPress.com (https://theme.wordpress.com/). Customisations are allowed to make these themes to suit your style with a paid upgrade.
  https://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/custom-css/. You can live preview the changes while you are editing a theme, so you won’t need a local install of WordPress.

  Thanks for your response.It was very useful and insightful.I think what I need now is how to move from wordpress.com to wordpress.org.To make things clear,I registered my domain name with whogohost.com (a friend told me about them;I am novice so I just followed his advice! ). My blog http://www.samoalfred.com is hosted on wordpress.How do I make the change ? can you help me ?

  Hi,
  This support document should help you with moving to WordPress.org.
  https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-to-a-self-hosted-wordpress-site/view-all/. You can also pay the staff to do the move for you but it is not mandatory. https://en.support.wordpress.com/guided-transfer/

  Just because you have a domain name with whogohost.com doesn’t necessarily mean you have to move to WordPress.org. Please read the support documents and decide for your self if you definitely want to move. I am not trying to scare you away, but I just want to point out that WordPress.org requires a bit of technical know how to get around. As long as you are willing to learn and dedicate the time, it will work for you.
