Is my WordPress.com blog interfering with my WordPress.org installation?

After signing up and buying a domain from wordpress.com, I noticed that a more flexible version was available from wordpress.org.

I have created an sql database and uploaded all the wordpress files to my web host, however, when I attempt to install in the browser using the following address: http://pueblofuerte.wordpress.com/wp-admin/install.php a wordpress “page not found” page comes up.

Could the blog I haven’t started yet be intefering with the installation as it is on the same domain?
    Blog url: http://pueblofuerte.wordpress.com/

    Howdy,

You’ve reached support for the blogs hosted at WordPress.com

Your WordPress.com site isn’t related to your WordPress.org installation — so, please be sure you’re running the install script from the domain where your WordPress.org installation is hosted (it’s not http://pueblofuerte.wordpress.com/).

If you’d like to point your custom domain to your self-hosted WordPress blog, you’ll need to change your name servers. You can obtain the correct name server values from your new hosting provider. This guide should come in handy:

If you need assistance with your self-hosted WordPress.org installation, please check out the support documentation and forums here:

Thank you Chris, I thought I had to change my nameserver, but wasn’t sure how. Thank you so much for pointing me in the right direction regarding this.

Now I’m on one last hurdle. I know that I’m on the support for wordpress.com, but hopefully you can help me. All wordpress.org docs have now been uploaded to my host root directory. I’ve set-up MySQL with my own DBname, username, password etc. However this is the response I get when I run the instalation script in the web browser.

    Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running?
If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

I’m sure my server is functioning fine, the username/password I’ve set myself in MySQL, what could be wrong?

  • That would mean that either there’s an issue with your host’s MySQL server, or you haven’t entered the correct details. You should contact your hosting provider about this.
