Instructions for font size adjustment seem lacking

When I choose e.g., EB Garamond as the font for “paragraphs” it renders painfully small on my iPad. The instructions I found called for creating a new page, selecting Aa, selecting the font, and adjusting its size via choice below the selected name. No size adjustment choice was offered when I followed these instructions and got so far as to choosing a font name!

  • Hi there,

Are you speaking of the instructions at https://wordpress.com/support/custom-fonts/? You’ll notice that mentions two ways to adjust the font.

The one you want for the Blank Canvas theme on your site is the first – Global Styles. That will allow you to change the font for your site, with the font size then being controlled within individual blocks of content on your site.

Right now it’s not possible to adjust font size globally for a site without using custom CSS, but that should change once the full-site-editing feature comes out in WordPress 5.9 next month. Until then, you’ll need to change this manually for each paragraph of text content you create.

That said, I activated Blank Canvas on a site and set the font to Garamond, and the text didn’t appear any smaller on my iPad for me than on my computer, so there might be something else going on here. Are you willing to activate that font again and let us know so we can take a closer look?

As you suggested, I was able to set font-size (even custom) for individual paragragraphs. I have done so. (I look forward to 5.9!)

I’m not quite rich enough to throw in custom CSS, font, self-written theme, etc., and I’m “spoiled” by doing so on my hosted WordPress website at a much lower price. So I’ll tolerate whatever I can get with the free plan here. I’m simply preparing for greater simplicity for my wife’s maintenance should I get run over by a semi. (She’s not into html/css/ftp and all that.)

I truly thank you for your advice. Stay safe and well.
