Insulting email yesterday, from wordpress.com
-
My name is Sylvia Lee. My teacher set me up with my own blog, “Where is My Guide?” on your site, wordpress.com. I have been enjoying posting my poetry, and it helps my self-esteem.
However, yesterday, January 22nd, I was shocked to find an insulting email in my inbox. It said, “You are so vain. You probably think your post, ‘Past, Present and Future’, is about you”. I know the song, ‘You’re So Vain’, but there is no reason to call me vain. I was crying and very upset. I expect an apology and reassurance that you will never do this again.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

This is the feature http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2011/12/12/get-instant-feedback-when-you-publish/ you are referring to. The line between teasing ie. a joke in English and an insult is thin. The insult was just a tease or a joke delivered by a bot – not a human.
I cannot locate where to disable that feature so I tagged this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond. To subscribe look in the sidebar of this thread, find the subscribe to topics link and click it.

My advice it to grow a very tough skin very quickly because when you are online people will not pander to you. The internet is a free speech environment and if you are not able to take any criticism at all it will be best for you to find another hobby, or to simply make your blog private and available only to invitees.
You can have either a public or a private blog and there is no limitation on the total number of contributors to any blog. If you’d like to invite others to publish posts or help approve comments on your blog, you can invite them to be a Contributor, Editor, or Author. If you want users to receive updates each time you publish new content you can invite them to be a follower/viewer.

If it is the “instant feedback” feature, you can disable it here: https://wordpress.com/me/account
Uncheck the box next to “Instant Post Feedback” and save your changes.
The fact that you say you received an email makes me wonder if this feature is even involved.

@justjennifer
Thanks for that link.:)I agree re: the email bit and was thinking of that too when I tagged this thread for Staff.
I noticed this also
https://whereismyguide.wordpress.com/ has been deleted
wheresmyguide.wordpress.com has been deleted
http://itsjustagamessylvialee.wordpress.com/ has been deleted
http://whereistheloveslee.wordpress.com/is empty -
itsjustagame345.wordpress.com however is not empty or deleted.
I don’t wonder if it wasn’t a comment notification email. Guess we’ll wait for Staff to sort it out.

True.
I don’t wonder if it wasn’t a comment notification email.
I also thought it might be a comment notification too. That said, anyone who cannot take criticism in a comment like “You are so vain. You probably think your post, ‘Past, Present and Future’, is about you” in response to writing and poetry that is autobiographical in nature is far too fragile to be publishing in a public blog.
I also note that https://itsjustagamessylvialee.wordpress.com/ has also been deleted.
I agree that Staff will have to sort this out.

Hi Silvia,
I’m sorry about the wording of that email. It was meant to be a little joke and unfortunately it did not translate well to everyone.
I have reported this to our team for review. I hope it didn’t discourage you from continuing your blogging. I’m not sure if it helps, but it is just an automated email that gets sent out when you like your own post. You can disable the instant feedback as our volunteers have stated above.
Let me know if you have any questions with this!

@gracejiyoung
Thanks for taking this to the Support team. I strongly support removing that feature entirely so no more misunderstandings can occur. -

I can understand some sort of an “whops” message about liking your own Post – but there have been several folks that were quite upset about the tone of the message show up in the forum – my guess is they did not know about the like button and what it does – but good the insult is gone
