integrate markdown files directly into pages

    It appears to me that one cannot upload markdown files as documents
    to integrate them in wordpress posts or pages, right?
    So one has to use markdown blocks to insert markdown formated text
    (not files) via the editor.

    It would be also very useful if pure text (not html!) emails sent to create
    blog articles/postings could contain markdown formated content that will
    be translated to html (by wordpress) when creating the article.
