Integrating Jetpack Sharing Buttons to WordPress.org site
-
Hi, I want to integrate or activate the Jetpack Sharing Buttons to my WordPress.org site at http://www.latinoliteratures.org, but when I try to do anything with the Jetpack plugin it sends me to a WordPress.com login page and I DO NOT want this connect to my personal wordpress.com sites, but to my wordpress.org site… please help.
WP.com: Unknown
Jetpack: Yes
Correct account: Unknown -
Hi there, since Jetpack brings WordPress.com features to your self-hosted WordPress.org site, it requires a WordPress.com account, much like how a plugin which brought Facebook features to your site would require a Facebook account.
Almost all of Jetpack’s features make use of heavy processing power (Photon the image CDN, related posts indexing), heavy database usage (stats), or require connections to third-party systems that can be very complicated to setup by yourself (Publicize’s automated sharing to social networks, email subscriptions, etc).
We take care of that all on WordPress.com’s server cluster so your hosting provider doesn’t suspend you for using excessive resources.
In order to do any of that, we need a WordPress.com account.

I see. Well, if I already own my URL and my site through BlueHost should I “transfer” or do something different? And, is there no free option for adding this extension to the WordPress.com account?
-
There’s no need to transfer or move anything. :)
When you install and activate the Jetpack plugin, visit the Jetpack section of your site’s Dashboard, and you’ll be prompted to click a button to connect Jetpack to your WordPress.com account.
-
Yes. I have done that already, but even though I am logged in through BlueHost, once I click on the settings tab and try to change anything it takes me to a WordPress.com Login site, and I do not have a WordPress.com account for this site. So I made one, and then it asked me to make a website and the Jetpack options that I then try to change are connected to the new site and not my old one.
What am I doing wrong?
-
Using Jetpack requires a connection to a WordPress.com account, so if you already connected Jetpack to your WordPress.com account, then you do have one.
I checked and latinoliteratures.org is indeed connected to a different account here.
Perhaps you have more than one account here? If you do, but you do not recall the password, we have some options for you at https://wordpress.com/support/account-recovery/
Alternatively, disconnect Jetpack from WordPress.com at Jetpack > Dashboard > Site Connection > Manage Site Connection in your site’s Dashboard, then connect again when prompted to the desired account.
-
Thank you, it is probably attached to one of my other accounts from the past. I will check. If that doesn’t work I will reconnect my Jetpack like you have suggested.
I am only worried that we will lose all of our stats from the previous installation.
-
You shouldn’t lose your stats, but if that does happen, please let us know and we can fix it. :)
