Interactive blog with family and invited guests only.

I want to create a blog that is semi private, for family members only. I also want to include a form for them to fill in with family information, I am gathering details about genealogy and also would like to engage them in conversations and written memories as we all grew up. Will that kind of interactive form and story telling be possible with the free blog?

That answers the question about forms.
What kind of story telling? Well, that depends; can your friends and family write? You can write, add YouTubes and Vimeos, link to Soundcloud and similar things. There are multiple ways to tell a story.
Sounds like what you want is a Private blog. Then you Invite the users and nobody but people you invite can read it. If you want them to write their own content, make them Authors. If you want to review it before it goes live, make them contributors instead of authors.

Thank you very much. I did find some answers after I posted the question, but the form is what really baffled me. Am I the only one that can only find answers myself after I post the question to a public forum?
