Interactive Crossword Puzzle

Is there a way to add an interactive crossword puzzle to my site?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Now there’s a first … Searching this forum, I can’t see anyone’s asked that question before !

Someone will correct me if I’m wrong, but I think the answer is No, sadly … The reason is that additional functionality can’t be added to WordPress.com, because what you’re asking for would either need a plugin or the ability to embed javascript into your blog/site.

    I notice this site provides free interactive crosswords – http://www.boatloadpuzzles.com/dailycrossword , however it’s a javascript “widget” and wouldn’t work on WordPress.com …

I did manage to embed a weather widget on my own blog ( http://DonCharisma.org ) in the sidebar, but that was a link to a “swf” file provided by a third party ( YoWindow.com )

So sorry I don’t think it’s possible, but, I’m happy to be proved wrong if anyone else knows how to do this …

    Cheers

Interactive means a script must be used and we cannot post JavaScript on WordPress.COM blogs. The software strips the code out for security reasons. https://en.support.wordpress.com/code/

Thank all. I know that it does but I was so hoping someone had a brilliant work-around.

    Thanks!

I couldn’t see a way on cursory investigation, and @timethief agrees … so would’ve been cool, but sorry not possible …

Of course a self-hosted blog would be a different story, but that’s separate from WordPress.com … and you’d need to pay for hosting package and set it up yourself …

Thanks @doncharisma. Yes there are plugins there. Who would you suggest to host? GoDaddy?

We’ve just moved away from Greengeeks in favour of DigitalOcean, because of a DDOS attack on Greengeeks that they wouldn’t help us with. Within that DigitalOcean might be more technically involved than you want.

I think WordPress recommend Bluehost and Dreamhost, I’ve heard some pretty good things about both, slightly favour Dreamhost. GoDaddy I’ve only used for domains, and they are, well, OK, I guess.

Anyway, we’re drifting off WordPress.com support – so I’ll wish you good luck with it :)

    Cheers
