  Hello there!
  I am struggling to get my site looking as I have envisioned.
  I am thinking of using either themes ‘Sketch’ or ‘Gateway’ as I want a simplistic, readable yet interactive site.
  I like ‘Sketch’ as the template can display my portfolio and allow me to set my portfolio as the site’s front page. As displayed in the theme demo but I don’t understand how to do this.
  My site currently has all my posts in Categories do I need to shift everything to pages?
  I also like how ‘Gateway’ has a static front page.
  Please help.

  It sounds like you’ll want to create a new page with the information for your home page. After this is done, you can create a static page and set that as your home. Here’s how to do that:
