Interested in using embedded html MailChimp signup forms on wordpress.com site

    Hi there,
I am primarily interested in doing some integration with MailChimp and I would like to include signup forms, both static and pop-up, on my wordpress.com site. I am wondering if it is possible to do this at all on wordpress.com, and if upgrading to Premium would allow me to embed the html code. Please let me know.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there!

The HTML embed code that Mailchimp provides makes use of the iframe tag, and that won’t work on WordPress.com even with the Premium plan. We do not allow certain tags on WordPress.com for security reasons, including JavaScript, Flash, iframe, form, and input tags.

These restrictions are in place to prevent any disruptions in service due to potentially malicious code. You can read more about this here:

Most folks on WordPress.com using MailChimp will use anImage Widget that links to your signup form URL. This method uses the MailChimp-hosted version of your list’s signup form, instead of the embedded version.

Hi, thank you for the response! Two questions: how do I obtain the image to place in the image widget? I am guessing that you are referring to a screenshot of what the signup form looks like? Second, how do I place the image widget somewhere else besides Footer Sidebar 1, Footer Sidebar 2, or Footer Sidebar 3? These seem to be my only options for widgets. Is there a way to put the signup form elsewhere, like to have it display on each page in a more visible way? Is there also a way to do the pop-up signup form?

    Thanks for everything!

    Happy to help! :)

Let’s go through each bit separately:

how do I obtain the image to place in the image widget? I am guessing that you are referring to a screenshot of what the signup form looks like?

That would be up to you! :)

A screenshot of the signup form would work. Or you could create a picture of a dinosaur with a caption “T-Rex can’t receive my emails. But you can!” if you’re readers were into dinosaurs. ;)

Whatever image you think would entice your readers, that’s the way to go.

Second, how do I place the image widget somewhere else besides Footer Sidebar 1, Footer Sidebar 2, or Footer Sidebar 3? These seem to be my only options for widgets. Is there a way to put the signup form elsewhere, like to have it display on each page in a more visible way?

Those are the only widget areas in your theme, Kelly. Changing widget areas would require changing themes.

You can add images to a page or post, and change the linkto url for the image to the MailChimp URL. You can change where the image links using the Custom URL setting shown here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/image-settings/#attachment-display-settings

Then just add that image anywhere you like, even if that’s every post. :)

You might even make a page dedicated to only that email subscription, then add that page to your navigation menu.

Is there also a way to do the pop-up signup form?

No, we don’t offer any pop-up options on WordPress.com.
