InterGalactic 2 Suddenly Showing Change To Display
-
We noticed today some apparent change to how pages on our site are displaying. We are noticing that when adding an image within a post, which the particular Blog syle we use displays behind the title of the post, a band color is showing. This makes the image look as if its been badly cropped. This never used to happen and we’d like your assistance in rectifying this. Thanks
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Do you mean the orange strip under the header image on the single-post view?
That section of the site is changed when you change the site background, and you have that color set as the custom background for your site. However, that color is supposed to be applied to the entire site, so the section showing the white background is actually the part that is not working.
I’m not able to replicate this issue at all, though, so it doesn’t look like a bug. Likely a setting from your theme got stuck in our server cache when you made a change at some point.
Please go to My Site ->Customize ->Colors and Backgrounds. Change the background color to something else, and then change it back and save. That should flush the cache and properly apply the background color to the entire site.

Hi Kokkieh, Thanks for your response. When the site was originally customized by our editing team, they managed to have the background page color that contained the text of the post showing as white. However they selected a shade of gold/orange for the header background color. Since that was set up the issue of the “the orange strip under the header image on the single-post view” in question was not present, it’s only a recent problem. How can that configuration be restored? Followed the steps you mentioned but as you say that applies an entire background page color. what we are seeking to re-establish is the combination described above. Any help would be most appreciated.

….oh and despite making the changes via Customize ->Colors and Backgrounds the issue is still showing

Here’s a screen shot Screen Shot showing the page, set with a standard pallete color from the customize menu options. See at the top of the header, a white line going across the image? This was the same when the header color was Gold/Orange. Also the same cropping effect to the image is still present

From what I can see the way you’ve had it all this time is a glitch. Setting a custom background changes it for the entire site – there’s no option to change it for just the header area but not the text area. I’ve checked with our theme team about this, though, to make sure.

Do you have an idea exactly when it started showing? I don’t see any recent changes to the theme that would explain this, but knowing when it started might help us find the cause.

Thank you for the screen shot showing what you’re referring to. That cropping is normal, and happens at very wide screen sizes – the height of the featured image area is fixed, so if you make the screen wider than the actual image we have no choice but to crop the top and bottom of the image so it will still fill the full width of the header. The alternative would be to have empty space either side of the header image.
That said, I had to stretch my browser window significantly before the cropping started to happen for me. With my browser window set at standard computer screen widths I did not see the cropping, so the majority of visitors to your site shouldn’t see that.
The white line is because the header image is not completely flush with the top of the screen. That might be fixable, so I’ve reported it to our theme developers to look into.

Hi Started showing last week, if as your researches are indicating this is some bizarre glitch then if the header color cannot be separately customized, we may have to rethink using this theme, as the color is key to our ‘branding’ across social media
-
This definitely appears to be a glitch. There has been no changes in the theme’s code that would cause this, and I also checked the old version of the theme, Intergalactic, which was retired almost a year ago and haven’t been changed since, and there background color changes also apply to the entire site, including the text area.
However, I don’t think you need to change your theme. If you want only the header to be that color you can still do it by making an image file that’s basically just a colored rectangle, and set that as a custom header for your site. That way it will display with the color on your front page, but on single posts and pages the featured image will be used without the colored strip appearing below.
I’ve created such an image for you and uploaded it to your media library. If you open the Customizer you should see that image applied in the header in the preview there – it’s saved as a draft change in the Customizer, so if you’re happy with it you can just publish the changes and it will be live on your site.

Hey Kokkieh, That was an option we were wondering about too, but your amazing kindness and support got there ahead of us. Thanks for taking time to do that, it’s genuinely appreciated. The glitch in question now seems to be resolved and we are happy to see the header with that color. One thing, on either side of that colored header we are seeing dotted lines at either end. Is that fixable at your end. or a feature that comes with the amendment?

No, that is my fault. It seems when I exported the image from the program in which I created it I missed a setting. I exported a new image and replaced it on your site, and it should be correct now. Please clear your browser cache if it doesn’t update for you immediately.

Hi kokkieh,
Thanks for resolving that, it’s now displaying fine..that said we notice, what maybe another display issue, again linked to how the headers are showing. Across pages we have on site the size of the colored header area looks to have have increased, making the title size look diminished and ill-fitting. We’ve made no changes and so are wondering if the glitch you mentioned has struck these paged also, could you please look into this? Thanks for all your help.

That is being caused by the custom header image we’ve added, but it shouldn’t happen. This is almost certainly a bug, so I’ll report it to our theme developers to see if this can be fixed.
It seems to be messing with the image’s color as well, so I’ll report that also.
-
Looking at this again I think this might be expected – your theme is designed to show big featured image headers on single posts and pages. With your posts you have featured images set, but on your page where you don’t have those it’s now using the custom header image we set for the site instead.
So it could be that this is how the theme is designed to work in this case, but I’ve reported it anyway so our theme team can take a look. But they might say this isn’t something they will fix/change in this case.

Hi. Thanks again for all your help on this.
Whatever is causing this, it was not showing previously and the headers on pages were not so large as they now appear.
Would appreciate a solution for this issue, had it been a default setting/size we would have noticed it and so obvious that it would have deterred us from choosing this theme.

That’s because previously you didn’t have a custom header image set for the site.

You would not have noticed it unless you activated a custom header or added featured images to the pages. It’s the presence of the image that causes this to happen.

Hi, We’ve removed the header image and the pages/post now displaying as they did originally.
Thanks for your support, we are going to rethink on using the present theme for our Blog.
-
Perhaps let’s see what our theme team says regarding the custom header image issue I reported to them. Perhaps we can still fix this for you.
I also want to mention that our Premium Plan includes Custom Design features that gives you more control over your theme’s colors, and also gives you allows you to tweak things using custom CSS code.
Should you decide to upgrade you should receive an automatic refund for the upgrades you already have.
-
We can take time to see if they can address the issues, please let us know of developments. Thanks again for the support
