Intergalactic Theme Header Image width – bigger?

  I’m currently using the new Intergalactic theme, self hosted. The max image width for the custom header (or featured image for blog posts) is set at 1440px and cannot be made bigger due to the cropping feature that will always cut a larger image down to 1440px.

  My understanding is that for a screen wider than 1440px, the theme stretches the image to fit, leading to it becoming pixellated. Since almost all modern screens (even on some tablets and phones – my header images look very pixellated on my Samsung S5) are over 1440px wide, I would like to be able to upload a wider image to maintain quality on larger screens.

  Is this possible? If not, will it be an option for a future update to have more control at the cropping stage of setting the header images?

  Your premise “Since almost all modern screens…are over 1440px wide…” is questionable.

  But it is certainly not unusual to have a screen wider than 1440px wide and I guess it will only get more common?

  True. My guess is that the maximum header size of this and other themes will be modified to time to time to harmonize with market trends. Intergalactic is designed by WordPress.com, so you should be able to get answers to your questions regarding this theme here. I’ll tag the thread for Staff attention.

  Ok, thanks for letting me know, I didn’t realise that. Does my original question apply also to a wordpress.com hosted site? If so, is it still worth leaving the question here for the support staff to check?

  WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support forums. read the differences here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there.
