Internal dns issue

Hi, our company made a new website on wordpress.com and last saturday i put it live, without a problem.

Now i’m at the office and we have custom dns rules for our domain name in our own domain controller. Meaning i cant manage to set it up so it will go to the new website, but to the old.

Could you help me with this problem?

  • Hi there,

Do you mean that you need additional DNS records in your domain for email, etc? You can add those to your domain here under My Site ->Domains. This support doc explains exactly how to do it:

    Custom DNS

Let me know if you need help setting any specific record.

If you’d prefer not to set the DNS records here but keep it with your registrar, you’ll need to set the name servers back to what they were before you pointed them to WordPress.com, and add A-records to map your domain here instead. Let me know if you prefer the second option and I can provide you with our current IP addresses.

I meant that we setup DNS in our bussines domain, excluded from wordpress.com. It’s configured so services that require such settings as an website to connect to, dont require the internet to work, they are forwarded within to our server within our domain.

We have a Forward lookup zone in our domain called: alfa-beta-solutions.nl
with a records for the servers in the domain.
With that said, computers that are in the office wont connect to the website since they will be refering to your dns settings rather then the dns settings from the wordpress nameservers, how can i configure it so it will work? Previousloy we had the ip of the host where the website was on, but filling in the ip i get from pinging the wordpress website wont work.

  • If you want to map your domain here using A-records you need specific IPs. Pinging WordPress.com won’t give you the correct IPs as we use different IPs for different parts of the system.

You will need to add two A-records with these IPs:

    192.0.78.24

    192.0.78.25

These IPs can change over time, at which point your domain will stop working. Should that happen, please contact us again for the new IPs.
