How do you make an internal link or an anchored link on the same page?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi catfishboy,

We have some information about inserting text links here:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/links/#creating-links-in-the-visual-editor

You should see the option to manually enter a URL or select existing content.

    I hope this helps.

Thank you for this information. Now how do you open the visual/html editor that is this example? It is great being able to use html coding, which I mostly understand. My end goal is to have one page with sections and be able to do an internal link to each section. Each section would have an anchor, so I would link from “#anchor” to location “anchor”.

  • Hi there,

The support page Gemma linked to refers to the classic editor, not the new block editor you’re using on your site – the doc still needs to be updated.

If you prefer, you can switch to that editor: Start a new post and click the three dots in the upper-right corner, and at the bottom you should see the option to switch to the classic editor.

But the block editor is the new default editor for WordPress, and the classic will likely be phased out eventually, so it’s better to learn how to do this in the block editor from day one :)

In the block editor you can switch to the HTML view in each block.

Create a new heading block and add the heading you want to anchor your link to. Then click the … icon for the block itself. There you’ll see a Edit as HTML option. Click that to see the HTML view for that block, where you can then add your anchor-ID. Then switch back to the Edit Visually option again and continue editing.

We have a more detailed page on jump links like this (though also referring to the classic editor) here:
