internal sever error on site
-
Hello, I’m looking for some help and I guess word press won’t help with a human unless its a paid for plan. I was told my pizza place’s site was down. When I attempt to bring up the site I am given this error
“Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator at (email visible only to moderators and staff) to inform them of the time this error occurred, and the actions you performed just before this error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.”
When I log into my wordpress account I don’t see the site anymore. I use bluehost to host the site. What do I do from here to get the site back up? Thank you in advance for any help
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there — sorry you’re dealing with this, I know how stressful it is when a business site suddenly goes down.
Based on what you’ve described, there are two important things to clarify first, because they determine who can actually help you.
1) This is not a WordPress.com site
Your domain liaspizzaandcatering.com is hosted with Bluehost, which means it’s a self-hosted WordPress.org site, not a site hosted on WordPress.com.
Because of that:
- WordPress.com support (free or paid) cannot access, see, or repair this site
- The site will not appear in your WordPress.com dashboard
- All errors are coming from the hosting server, not WordPress.com
This is expected behavior and does not mean your site was deleted.
2) What does the 500 Internal Server Error means
A 500 Internal Server Error indicates a server-side problem, most commonly caused by:
- A plugin or theme error
- Corrupted
.htaccessfile - PHP version incompatibility
- File permission issues
- A database connection problem
This error must be diagnosed on the hosting side.
3) What to do next (recommended steps)
Since Bluehost is your host, these are the correct next actions:
A) Log in to your Bluehost account
Check whether:
- The domain is still listed under your hosting plan
- The WordPress files still exist in
public_html
If the WordPress files are present, your site content is almost certainly intact.
B) Contact Bluehost support (this is required)
Bluehost provides free support via live chat and phone.
When contacting them, ask specifically for:
- The server error logs for the time the 500 error occurred
- Verification that the database is connected
- A backup restore if a recent server change caused the issue
You can copy and paste this message to them:
“My WordPress site is returning a 500 Internal Server Error and no longer appears connected in the dashboard. Please check the server error logs, PHP version, and database connection for liaspizzaandcatering.com.”
C) Ask Bluehost to check the PHP version
Many WordPress sites break if the server is running an incompatible PHP version. Bluehost can switch this quickly.
