Internet Explorer Script issues!

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

    Internet explorer keeps bringing up this message when you try and add a comment…

    Stop running this script?

    A script on this page has caused Internet Explorer to run slowly. If it continues to run your computer may become unresponsive.

    What is this? I haven’t don’t anything to my site and it is happening on a few of the other blogs?

    It is fine on Firefox.

    Regards

    Pedro

    I have the same problem with IE, not with Firefox or Opera.

    There is another thread on this. This ‘script’ might be more malicious as it turns out. Do check out the recent thread on this issue.

    This began happening to me today as well. Whole of site …attempting to click through to any other part.

    Only IE7 or Avast …Firefox is OK.

    It has a residual effect in the browser as well …close off the WordPress site and the browser continues to show the error until you shut down and restore.

    The same warning returns only if you return to your WordPress site.

    Now that I look around …this issue seems to occur when visiting any .wordpress.com site at this point in time!

    Same problem here. Is this a virus of some sort? Been getting lots of weird spam lately.

    I’ve been having the same problem since this morning… After googling on the issue, I found three possibilities:

    1) Author of the webpage has simply made some sort of programming error and this is typically the most common reason;
    2) You are possibly running a pop-up killer of some kind which closes the pop-up too quickly which causes the script of the website to fail and thus giving you the error because it didnt complete;
    3) You have some sort of spyware or adware infection that tries to launch something such as a popup but causes script errors.

    I have disabled any popup blockers and also scanned for viruses and spyweare. Everything’s clean… Did they make any programming changes to wordpress.com recently?

    I think it may be something to do with the security features on IE7… there are a lot of items blocked when you have a look.

    Whatever it is, it seems to be affecting everyone!

    Come on WordPress its been 4 hours!

  • I’m sorry for the problems. We are looking into it.

    My computer is several years old, and I am using an out-of-date screen reader, and I know I’m not using IE 7 because it’s not compatible with my screen reading software. I believe I’m using 6? Anyhow, I’ve been getting this same said error anytime I click a link on any WP.com site. It was actually one of my blog readers who pointed out the error to me, as she had tried to leave me a comment.

    I have made no changes to my blog site, have scanned spyware, malware and viruses with three different such programs after the error was discovered happening to me as well, have downloaded nothing in several weeks. So, the problem isn’t just effecting IE 7 users. Hope it gets fixed soon :)

  • The problem should with the unresponsive/slow script should be resolved.

    Hi mtdewvirus!

    All the best!
    I have left some ‘events’ which may be relevant to this happening in another thread that you may find useful. I find them pretty linked.

    Besides, allow me to highlight this… a couple of very hot ‘sensitive’ political sites are hosted with wordpress. The Asian governments and some commercial wackos are quietly quite sensitive to blogosphere, in which case, it’d be up to your team to protect our environment.

    Which is why I’d salute you if you can do a good job. It has been known that ISPs in Singapore have been… affected. Call me a paranoid if you must.

    Scope.

    i have the same problem too, i scanned my system, every thing is clean, did you (wordpress developer) make any changes that introduced that bug. It is not possible that every one was infected with a virus or a spyware. This problem seems to be universal. I am using internet explorere 7
