Introduction Text
-
I would like to have a paragraph or two with a header (basically a blog entry) at the top of my home page. I would like for this to show up all the time at the top. Basically a Welcome paragraph, explaining a bit about the purpose, etc.
Is this possible? If so, how?
Thank you.

You can update your tagline which displays on certain themes. I don’t know if there’s a text character count limit or not.
But you won’t be able to do a welcome paragraph or a blog entry on top of every page.

You could put it in a text widget at the top of your sidebar instead of using an About page.
-
You could if you do it in a graphics program and save that as your custom header, but space is really limited for that.
I generally suggest you use a text widget and put it at the top of the sidebar instead. Sticking a blog post to the top of the page is possible only by changing the date of it every single time you make a post, so it’s always “most recent”. A huge pain in the butt.

Oh, good idea about the text widget. I always forget about those and usually those are the answer to so many issues.
Using text widget’s you’ll need to place it on a sidebar, since I’m pretty sure there aren’t any themes that let you place widgets in the middle/content column/area of the page.

Also, there are at least 2 themes where the about me is always on the homepage. Andreas04 and Supposedly Clean.

I have successfully used a text widget in the sidebar for an introductory photo and brief blurb — and then continued the intro text in my first Page (I have assigned a specific order to my Pages, and always make certain that Page remains in the top position.) Come and take a look. (-:

Hmm, so here’s a question. How come my name isn’t a live link here? niwotcentral is my unchangeable ID; though I opted to use a nickname in public. Does that not translate to the Forum? Just curious, although I realize it’s off-topic for this thread.

…though I am a bit confused. Just checked my profile and my blog was there. Added my first and last name, but everything else seemed in order.

at the top of this forum, you should see “welcome, XXXX” where XXXX is your user name. Click on that and it brings up the profile. Edit the profile and put your blog address in there. Make sure you have the entire blog address, including the http part.

Between your comment plus one on another forum thread, I finally figured out that I needed to put the blog URL in the blank marked website. The patience of the wordpress community never ceases to amaze me! Thanks again, Vivian.
