Invalid subscrber count
-
Hello.
So, the site I need help with is Aceybooks. I’ve been able to get people to subscribe but the count on my dashboard hasn’t increased!! They got email notifications, but my follower count did not change… it’s the same since last year. This means that I may have gotten followers but would think I haven’t and it’s not encouraging. I experimented with an email by subscribing… The email subscribers count did not increase but I got the New Post notification. It’s still on 2 email subscribers when its clearly more than that. This is for the website’s followers and email subscribers. Thanks.I NEED HELP PLEASE… LET THE COUNT SHOW CORRECTLY!
WP.com: Yes
Correct account: YesThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi, when I check your site information at the moment it shows that you have 43 followers in total – how much should the subscriber count be normally?
Would you be able to share the email address you used to test the subscription?
-
Thank you.
Yes…
The wordpress followers are 43… But the email subscribers are less than what it should be. I guess my main concern is about the email subscribers because it’s what most people who don’t have a wordpress account use.
The email I experimented with was – (email visible only to moderators and staff)

Hi there,
Yeah, I am not seeing the email you provided under email subscribers either. Can you possibly provide a few emails of people who should be andemail follower? I’ll try to subscribe via email from my end as well and see if anything comes up.
Thanks! -
Okay,
So you have the subscribe block added to your front page. People who subscribe to your site can receive notifications of your posts via email, or receive no emails at all and follow via the Reader. When I subscribed via the block, I was added to the followers tab, not the email followers.
If these readers have WordPress.com accounts, they will have to choose to follow via email. Otherwise, you’ll see them under the followers tab. Readers without a WordPress.com account will end up under email followers. For more information on this setup, please visit:

I’ll be happy to confirm if you want to share a few Reader emails. Thanks! -
Hello!
Thanks for your help.
If you were added to the followers tab then, I guess that means you have a wordpress account. When I tried experimenting with that email… I wasn’t asked to choose… And now, if you can’t find the email I sent under the email subscribers tab… then, it’s probably lost or not even there… That’s what I don’t get.
Because, when I’m trying to publicise my blog, I usually refer people to the email subscription form and not all have an account with wordpress.
I also think this person should have been an email follower – (email visible only to moderators and staff) (I think the person got a confirmation but I didn’t).

Hello there,
When I tried experimenting with that email… I wasn’t asked to choose… And now, if you can’t find the email I sent under the email subscribers tab… then, it’s probably lost or not even there… That’s what I don’t get.
Depending on whether signed in, and whether there’s an account created with that email would determine what’s seen. I hope that makes sense.
(I think the person got a confirmation but I didn’t).
What email address did you use here?
-
Email address?
Mine or the person’s?
Well, the sites address is – (email visible only to moderators and staff)
The email I provided before was – (email visible only to moderators and staff)
So, someone just subscribed to my blog and the person was immediately added to the followers tab. The person also has a wordpress blog and this has been confirmed by me. Maybe it only the email subscription tab now…

Hello there,
Ok so this perhaps needs some clarification.
So, someone just subscribed to my blog and the person was immediately added to the followers tab.
If they were added immediately as a follower, they would have had a WordPress.com account.
With someone who doesn’t have a WordPress.com account or blog, they would need to opt in via email to the subscription.

Even when I try to “add subscribers” on my own… it doesn’t work…
Is there a special way to do it…
…because I’m not importing them from anywhere, I’m just putting in their emails
Thank you

Even when I try to “add subscribers” on my own… it doesn’t work…
To have someone subscribe by email, this is a two-step opt-in process:
- First, someone adds their email to the subscription box on your site.
- Then they will receive an email asking them to confirm the subscription.
Until the individual confirms the subscription, they will not show in your email followers list. Therefore unless you own the email address you’re trying to add, you won’t be able to add them yourself.
I hope that clarifies things!
-
Okay…. Thanks…. I totally get it
Also, concerning the email I experimented with… That’s wasn’t shown in the email subscribers list… I confirmed the subscription but it didn’t show up
