Invalid WXR/Missing Number – Trying to move from self-hosted to wordpress.com
-
Hi there,
I’ve done some Googling but can’t find anything recent enough that matches my problem and is up to date.
Currently, I have a self-hosted wordpress blog via InMotion (if that’s relevant). I’m no longer updating it, but want to keep the content online, so my intention is to back up the self hosted blog, import to WordPress.com and redirect my domain.
I’ve followed the directions on WordPress but when I get to the Import step, I keep getting this error message:
Sorry, there has been an error.
This does not appear to be a WXR file, missing/invalid WXR version numberI’ve tried the export twice from WordPress.org/InMotion, but it’s still giving me this message. Can anyone advise me? I’m doing a full content export (posts/comments etc)
Thanks in advance!

Looks like 4.1.8 – like I said, I don’t update the blog anymore. Should I try updating and exporting again?

Yeah, if I were in your shoes, I’d make a backup, then update WordPress and try exporting again. If that still doesn’t work, let us know and we’ll take a look at your export file.
