Invisible text in my header site title?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi all, is there a way to put some invisible text in my site title and tagline? Otherwise this text will destroy my header image? And I started this blog in Dutch, seems that there is still some (Dutch) text in the Home-page that I can’t find and delete.
    Please help,

  • Can you explain your goal in adding invisible text so I can assist you better? Search engines penalize sites that attempt to hide text from them, so if it’s for SEO purposes I don’t recommend it.

    I’d suggest you add your Site Title and Tagline in your Customizer‘s Site Identity panel. If you don’t want it visible, uncheck the “Display Site Title and Tagline” checkbox. Search engines will still see the text that way and it will be displayed in the browser title bar and tabs, but it won’t appear over your header.

    Let me know if this does the trick for your needs.

    Can you tell me what words you mean? I scanned your front page but I can’t seem to find anything in Dutch. Thanks!

    Hello kathrynwp,

    Thank you very much for explaining Site Title and Tagline checkbox! I didn’t see that checkbox at all :)

    But I just shared my blog with a friend, there’s still no site title:

    And I still can see the Dutch text in de Home-page?
    This blog template was prepared with a few page examples, could it be that?

    Thanks in advanced,

    Mare

  • Mare, Facebook just needed some time to pick up your site’s new title, as the older version was still in its cache. It should pick up the new title & tagline now:

    3 Facebook

    If you ever change those again in the future, you can clear Facebook’s cache by using their debug tool here: https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/ – and clicking the “Scrape again” button. That forces Facebook to pick up the new information related to your site.

    And I still can see the Dutch text in de Home-page?

    I see where this is coming from. You’ll need to edit the Excerpt field for those pages, in the More Info box:

    Edit Page kp test site WordPress com

    Let me know how it goes!

    Hello kathrynwp,

    Thank you so much for your help!
    It’s working now pretty fine.

    One last question?
    Is it possible in a wordpress blog, to disable the header text in Pages?
    For example my Homepage called; Home. This text “Home” is also visible on top when I open this Page. This is for all pages the same…

    Again, thank you very much,

    Mare

    You can do that in one of two ways:

    – You could remove the page title from the editor. This route has several pitfalls, so I wouldn’t recommend it. For example, the page title won’t be included in the browser’s title bar, which is used in search engines and when users navigate your site. It also won’t be included when a specific page is shared on social media.

    – You could hide it with Custom CSS, which is available with the Premium or Business plans. This custom CSS would hide all page titles:

    .page .page-title {
      display: none;
    }

    As an alternative, if it’s mostly the “Home” page title that bothers you, why not switch “Home” to “Welcome To FutureNet!” – and then remove “Welcome To FutureNet!” from the body of the post itself?
