  Invitations to people I did not invite as users are being accepted.

  It could be that someone has gained access to your account and have started adding users. I’d suggest immediately changing the passwords of both your WordPress and email accounts. You can change your WordPress password here: https://wordpress.com/settings/password/

  Also head to Users ->All Users and remove any users you did not add and cancel any pending invitations that you did not send out. http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#removing-users
