Invite accepted but I didn’t send it

    I’ve received an email saying (name) has accepted your invitation but I didn’t send an invite to them and they weren’t on my pending invite list. Has something happened? I’ve only got the homepage published so far and have some posts in draft so am holding off until I know nothing has gone wrong

    I have just googled the user name that this person used and it might be a fishing attack of some kind.

    Can I report the name somewhere to check this?

    Can you tell us more about this invite? What is the exact text of the email message so we can look into it? Also which site is this for? I see you have a few sites on your account that you have sent invites from: https://wordpress.com/sites

    The “invite accepted” email just appeared in my usual inbox
    Site is Marigold’s Little Readers Book Club
    I’ve tried to send you a copy or photo of the email but it won’t attach
    It looked the same as others from people I have invited.

    The sender is now listed in my team as a contributor.

    Am I allowed to tell you the senders name on this forum? Or is there somewhere can I send you a photo of the email?

    Yep. All you have to do is add that image to your media library. Let us know once you’ve done that and we can take a look. Once we have that bit of information I think we will know what’s going on and be better able to advise.

    Thank you. I have had a closer look and found the image.

    This is a notification telling you that the WordPress.com user account fea8 accepted the invitation you sent. You an also seem that user account listed on the site: https://marigoldslittlereadersbookclub.wordpress.com/wp-admin/users.php

    Your account is the admin for that site. My advice is that you don’t ever add a second admin because you could find yourself in a bad situation where the second admin deletes it for example. The other 2 users on your site are “contributor” role.

    Thank you for the info and I won’t make another admin role – it will just be the same one on both sites.

    The thing about fea8 though is that I didn’t send an invite to them

    I’ve put a photo of my invites onto the media for you to see.

    It’s very strange that the acceptance just appeared from nowhere

    Hi, you’re referring to the pending invite, right? I checked your site’s log, and you invited them using their email address. Is there a chance you wanted to invite a different person and simply misspelled their email?

    Problem solved!

    It’s connected to this:

    I invited caz9185 at 12.59 on Nov 5th
    It was accepted by caz9185 at 20.15 on Nov 5th which is exactly the same time as the email from fea8

    Quite a coincidence !

    I know caz9185 and asked them if they recognise the email address of fea8 that came up on the user list – and yes a friend was helping them and their email address was input in error.

    I’m going to delete both fea8 and caz9185 and then resend the invite to caz9185 and they will input their own email address this time.
